Meet the unexpected brand that saved my face

Discover your skin's worst enemy and what you can do about it.

I think we all wish we could find those one or two products that work wonders to heal blemishes after one use, or the magical elixir to restore baby pure skin. After trying hundreds of lotions and potions and still no overnight miracles, I’d just about convinced myself that it’s too much to expect from any one product…until I experienced the results of Siam SEAS.

In this post, you will discover:

  • The two products that turned around my inflamed skin
  • Your skin’s worst enemy and what you can do about it
  • How Western formulas differ from Eastern traditions
  • The golden keys to healing acne and preventing disease
  • What NOT to do to your skin—even when you’ve had it with breakouts and acne

In spite of knowing better, there are times that I grow impatient with my perfectly imperfect skin and want to purge every last bump, capillary, blemish, blackhead, wrinkle—you name it. Those are the worst times to do anything because that’s when I get aggressive on my face. And honey, there’s no room to rage on my face anymore.

Several months ago, I was in hyper-perfectionist mode, scrutinizing the little bumps under my skin as though with a magnifying glass. After extracting some, I was left with awful red scars that could hardly be covered with foundation. {Groan}

So I reached into the far recesses of my cabinet and dug up two products that I had not used in a long time: a Vitamin C gel by Devita and a serum by Luzern Labs with 18% AHA. I had endured enough with my skin. I applied these two products and felt the extreme tingle (read: burn), and let it sit on my skin anyway.

Then I did it again the next day. And the next.

Fast forward two days later, my face was a red, inflamed mess with bright red, dry patches and flakes in some areas, bumps appearing under the surface in others. Awful!

It was humiliating. I felt shame and didn’t want to show my face anywhere. I’m a beauty blogger, for goodness sake! A few days earlier someone had been saying how great my skin looked, and she was ready to follow any of my skincare tips like the gospel. But in those traumatized skin days, I assure you, people would have laughed had they discovered my creative occupation as they made a mad dash for the Cetaphil.

But what I learned in the process of burning off my skin and developing spots—like everywhere—will be wisdom gleaned for life.

I learned how unforgiving I can be to my skin and the importance of loving it anyway, through the good and bad.

I learned that Vitamin C + AHA’s don’t mix and need to be used gently and skip days in between.

It was a shock that even products called “soothing” and “healing” stung my skin. Much as I adore Dr. Alkaitis Soothing Gel and Batty’s Bath Hydra Healing Skin Rescue Gel when my skin is not freaking out, these stung like hell when it was raw and sensitive.

I learned that most oils and balms merely sat on top of my skin, but left a trail of bumps longer than the Pacific Crest.

Products that helped + products that rescued

Some products helped ease the irritation but not completely, like: Blissoma Lavish, CV Skinlabs Mist, and Jordan Samuel Hydrate. I’d also been using Laurel’s anti-inflammatory serum and the blemish treatment oil to calm and soothe.

But the real heroes—and the ones that reversed the damage—were from new brand, Siam SEAS. As soon as I used a prototype for the current Twilight BeCalm Serum, $80, together with SEAS Elements Beauty Balm, $95 (full ingredients below), my skin relaxed and felt soothed. This was such a marked contrast from the response to other serums and ointments that I wouldn’t have believed the instant relief had I not experienced it myself.

The steps are simple: on damp skin, massage a small amount of the balm into skin, then apply the serum over it. Within seconds, I could see the redness diminish and the stinging gone. By the next morning, my skin showed significant improvement—more than I could have hoped for.

These products worked so incredibly fast and thoroughly that I wanted to share some of the founder’s story with you as well as an incredible offer after the interview. Supadra Geronimo healed her own acneic skin with the traditional plants from her native country in Thailand and was happy to share what worked for her. For more about Supadra, I posted about her on Instagram a while ago too.

Q: Your story is so amazing about healing your skin through tapping into the natural traditions of your native country. Tell me three top lessons that you’ve learned about acne and why typical Western methods of treatment don’t work.

A: Being through a lot of treatments, I can say that I believe that none of the topical application can sustain the result IF you keep ignoring what your body is telling you. So first thing I learned is to take better care of myself, spend time to learn about the food I eat, which I never did until problems arose. Liver, blood, how your body processes sugar, and how effectively it processes hormones are the golden keys to healing acne and preventing diseases. Then I create a less stressful environment, and try not to get caught up in the whirlwind of how fast the world is moving. Slow down and breathe. It’s more healing than you think.

I also learned about plants from home. Southeast Asia is blessed with a very unique climate that allows for incredibly lush forests and one-of-a-kind botanicals. Plants in the wild are extremely potent due to their high defense mechanisms needed to protect themselves from the surroundings. The lack of sophisticated technology forced our ancestors to distinguish the poisonous plants from the beneficial plants and learn how to apply them. Through centuries of collected knowledge, we have created potent and effective ways to heal our skin and health in the Far East.

Sadly, I think the integrity of beauty product is lost in mass production. Western “sophisticated” technology turns small businesses—that have love and care for quality—into financial institutions. Answering to investors about how to increase profits has become more important than making quality products that are more labor intensive or that require care in sourcing ingredients. It has become more about how fast and how cheap can we do it. Most beauty products in the East are still made by hand. They are often family-owned through a few generations, and some still plant their own ingredients. These things matter. The production that is a labor of love and passion is always of highest quality and efficacy.

Q: What’s the best way to derive the quickest and most efficacious results from using your line? How soon can someone expect to see changes?

A: Routine consistency is the key. To get result you need to know your skin. Your skin is unique. It acts differently each day depending on your internal system balances. You need to be observant of how it is acting and feed what it needs to stay healthy. Follow your individual rhythm and stick with it. For example, I scrub my skin every other day. If I skip, my skin gets clogged easily but some people can get away with only once or twice a week.

My skincare collection foremost focuses on inflammation, which (in my opinion) is the worst enemy of skin appearances. My nighttime skin collection, I can see inflammation being reduced by the next morning! It sinks right into the pores. You can feel the way it softens and hydrates your skin immediately after massaging it on. However, for other complex benefits such as pore refining, skin tone evening, brightening of dark spots you will start seeing the difference in 3-4 weeks.

  2. I loved learning about this brand from you Sarita. Thank you for this discovery. Also, I loved the part about more bumps than the Pacific coast. Of course, not that you got bumps – but that was such a funny line. So enjoyed reading this, as always!
